Samara DraperIt is with great pleasure that we announce Samara Draper as the winner of the 2019 EWHA Dawn Fleming Student Scholarship.
Samara currently works at Zoos Victoria Healesville Sanctuary full time in the horticultural team. She works alongside arborists, landscapers and experienced horticulturists.
Healesville Sanctuary has a mix of remnant land and semi-formal Australian native landscape. Samara believes protecting and recreating native landscapes is very important moving forward into a sustainable future.
Samara is currently completing her Certificate III in Horticulture and her Diploma in Conservation and Land Management at Swinburne University of Technology. She considers herself to be very fortunate in the support and development she has received from the teachers at Swinburne.
Samara hopes to one day to do the same for others beginning their careers in the industry. Samara is excited to learn and develop her future by further studies and growth within the workplace.
To receive the Dawn Fleming Student Scholarship has meant that Samara can continue her studies and has given her confidence to achieve even greater things within horticulture. Samara is very grateful for this opportunity and thankful to all those involved in the selection process.
Samara stood out because she has a clear idea of her career path, she is committed to both work and study. Her role at Healesville is full time and she is studying at night. Her results have been of high standard and she has gained useful industry experience. Samara also plans to do the Cert IV in Training & Assessment to be able to teach Horticulture at a later stage.
